Major Slovak technical and economic universities have been cooperating for several years with representatives of the automotive industry, with processors, recyclers, and disposers of vehicle waste throughout their entire life cycle. The potential of the UNIVNET platform to collaborate and intensify research towards a more efficient and more environmentally oriented circular economy in the automotive sector is based on the results to date, which include studies and scientific articles by UNIVNET members and teams in several areas.

The university and industrial research and education platform of the recycling society (UNIVNET) consists of five research universities and the Automotive Industry Association of the Slovak Republic. It focuses on issues of new technologies and techniques of effective waste recovery, especially in the automotive industry, with the aim of minimizing negative impacts on the environment and saving primary energy and raw material resources.
Currently, the UNIVNET association focuses on the transition from theoretical studies and initial experiments to the implementation of solutions in cooperation with industry. The involvement of specific partners from the industry is intended to help move the research teams to achieve specific outputs, with specific designs of products, technologies, or solutions, from production to sales.
UNIVNET members are planning to address the needs of waste treatment from the automotive industry, taking into account the Waste Management Programme of the Slovak Republic for 2021 – 2025, the problem of the lack of data on waste capacity, and specific solutions for waste treatment.
